Managua (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of Managua, called on citizens with the right to vote in the upcoming elections in November, to see if their names appear on the electoral roll. According to information sent to Fides from a local source, in a brief meeting with reporters, on Saturday, June 18, the Cardinal informed that he will also see for himself if he appears on the electoral register at the polling station in his area. Cardinal Brenes urged Nicaraguans to do the same in order to know the place where to vote on November 6.
In Nicaragua, the verification process is scheduled for June 25 and 26: the 4,313 citizen centers for verification will be active in 153 municipalities in the country. Nicaraguans will need to bring an ID document with them and will receive the election ballot and know in which seat they will have to vote in November.
The Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) has not yet given any information on how many people will be eligible to vote. In the 2011 general elections there were about 3.3 million Nicaraguans. On November 6, the people will elect the President, Vice President, 90 national MPs and 20 Central American Parliament representatives (Parlacen). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 20/06/2016)
