Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 18 June 2016 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Livingstone (Zambia), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Raymond Mpezele, in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Fr. Valentine Kalumba, O.M.I., Pastor of St. Theresa's Parish and Vice-Delegate of the Delegation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Zambia, as Bishop of Livingstone.
Rev. Fr. Valentine Kalumba, O.M.I., was born on 16 January 1967 in Mufulira in the diocese of Ndola (Zambia). He completed his philosophical studies at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Mpima, Zambia (1994-1996), and his theological studies at St. Dominic Major Seminary in Lusaka. In January 2001 he entered the Novitiate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. On 20 February 2002 he professed his perpetual vows. He was ordained a priest on 22 October 2005.
Since his ordination he has served the following pastoral roles: 2005-2007: Vice-Treasurer and Assistant priest at St. Michael's Parish in Kalabo, in the diocese of Mongu (Zambia); 2007-2008: In charge of St. Lawrence of Brindisi Parish in Limulunga, in the diocese of Mongu; 2008-2009: Parish priest at St. Michael's Parish in Kalabo; 2009-2011: Assistant priest and, later, Pastor at St. Leopold Parish in Shang'ombo, in the diocese of Livingstone; 2011-2014: Director of Oblate Radio Liseli in Mongu; 2014-2015: Treasurer of the Formation Centre of Philosophy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; since 2011: Vice-Delegate of the Delegation of the Oblates in Zambia; since 2014: Parish priest at St. Theresa's Parish, in the Diocese of Kabwe.
