Seoul (Fides Service) - The archdiocese of Seoul ended a ten day Eucharistic Congress on Sunday 23 October. Ten days of deep prayer and serious reflection on the Eucharist marked the closing of the special Year of the Eucharist. “These have been very important days for our community in which our local Church has been purified and emerges to look at the future and the challenge of evangelisation with new hope and enthusiasm”, said one of the local priests .
The Congress closed with a solemn procession with the Blessed Sacrament at Seoul major seminary with the presence of Archbishop Nicholas Cheong, Cardinal Stephen Kim and at least 5.000 Catholics.
“In the Eucharist we are united ever more closely with Christ who gives us salvation”, the archbishop said. “Today the Church’s mission is to build a society of profound respect for life”, he said, encouraging Catholics to be leaven in Korean society.
Many of the Congress participants were young people who took part in adoration, prayer and discussion. The congress was an opportunity to pray, celebrate and announce and witness which involved them at the spiritual and organisational levels.
The Church encouraged them at the pastoral level: they are called to promote a culture of life: “From the Eucharist we receive the mandate to give hope to this world by proclaiming the Gospel of Life”, the young participants said. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 28/10/2005 righe 25 parole 254)
