OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Resignation of the Bishop of Goroka, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 9 June 2016 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Goroka (Papua New Guinea), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Francesco Sarego, S.V.D., in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the C.I.C. and at the same time, he appointed Rev. Fr. Dariusz Kaluza, of the Missionaries of the Holy Family (M.S.F.) as Bishop of the Diocese of Goroka.
The new Bishop was born in Pszczyna, Poland, Diocese of Bielsko-Zywiec, on 5 November 1967. He completed his formation in Poland. In 1985, after finishing his studies at the Minor Seminary in Częstochowa, he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Family. He professed his first vows in 1987 and then he continued his philosophical and theological formation at the Major Seminary of the Kazimierz Biskupi Institute. On May 5, 1993 he was ordained a priest.
Since his ordination, he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1993-1996: Assistant priest in Złotów, Poland; 1996-1997: studies English in Great Britain; 1997: Missionary in Papua New Guinea, in the Diocese of Mendi; 1997- 2004: Pastor of two parishes in the Diocese of Mendi; 2004-2005: Director of the diocesan formation center for catechists; 2006-2011: Vicar General of the Diocese of Mendi; 2011-2012: Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Mendi; 2012-2015: Vicar General of the Diocese of Mendi; 2015: Pastoral Vicar of the Archdiocese of Madang.
