Kuala Lumpur (Agenzia Fides) – Intense prayer, deep spiritual motivation, pastoral renewal, joyful public testimony: in this spirit the Catholic priests of Malaysia are celebrating this Holy Year of Mercy. Fides was told by the local Church that today, 3 June, and the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, special jubilee events include prayers, conferences, meetings.
In Kuala Lumpur the Jubilee for Priests is being celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, with the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, during which priests will have the opportunity for individual confession, followed by the celebration of Holy Mass to conclude with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Festive events include a community viewing of a special video message from Pope Francis and a shared meal for the diocese’s 50 priests (diocesan and religious), together with Archbishop Julian Leow. Also today the lay Catholics of the diocese will offer prayers for their priests including the recitation of the Holy Rosary in honour of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Other diocesan celebrations include, in Sibu a commemorative event: 150 years of the service of Mill Hill Missionaries who made such an important contribution to evangelisation in this area. Precious fruits of the Mill Hill community in Malaysia include the “Missionary Community of Corpus Christi”, involving lay Catholics active in Malaysia and elsewhere in the world.
In the diocese of Keningau, the community is rejoicing for the visit, today June 3, of Papal Nuncio Archbishop Joseph Marino who will give a talk on Pope Francis’ post Synodal exhortation Amoris laetitia. The Nuncio will preside Holy Mass and impart a special blessing for the inauguration of a new Pilgrim Centre dedicated to the Holy Family.
Finally, in Malaysian Borneo, in the dioceses of Sandakan and Sabah, hundreds of jubilant Catholic youth will take part in special Diocesan Youth Day activities focussed on the central theme of “Vocation”. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 3/6/2016)
