AMERICA/MEXICO - “Take part in the elections”, Bishop of Veracruz urges

Veracruz (Agenzia Fides) – Bishop Luis Felipe Gallardo Martin del Camtare of the diocese of Veracruz, has urged the people to show responsibility and take part in elections set for June 5: "The message from the diocese is for everyone: it recalls the responsibility to vote, urging everyone to be well informed and to remember they are giving a mandate for the future " the Bishops told a group of journalists. Bishop Gallardo Martin del Campo said voters were responsible for the situation in which they live, because the decisions of those in government are preceded by democratic elections.
“It is our duty to take part and demonstrate our political maturity examining the curriculum of each candidate as for any commercial activity, in order to decide who will take the important decisions, for the best or not”, Fides was informed in a message.
Regarding violence in recent days the Bishop said: "Sad to say, as on many other occasions, we have suffered violence, and a political event always draws the interest of certain groups of violent people (...) However despite the critical situation I am convinced that in no way should we let it prevent us from taking part ", Bishop Gallardo concluded and urging all citizens go out to vote he said he hoped the process would take place in conditions of security and with respect for the law.
A recent editorial of the Desde la Fe magazine, strongly denounced the presence and the aggressiveness of criminal groups in society calling them “products of institutional voids” in Mexico. In the states called to elect state governors , 12 in all, including Chihuahua, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Puebla and Quintana Roo, voters “are on their knees, subject to the dictates of delinquency”.
