AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - The arrival of the rains exacerbates the situation of more than 700,000 refugees

Yida (Agenzia Fides) - The emergency in the refugee camp in Yida, South Sudan continues. Strong winds and torrential rains have destroyed the tents and left thousands of people in dire straits. According to local sources, most of the camp residents, about 35,000, are facing the beginning of the rainy season in the open. They have received tents and plastic covers that humanitarian organizations should have distributed before the arrival of the rains. The muddy roads are a serious problem for the transport of relief supplies and are often swept away. Food rations have been reduced for the more than 700,000 refugees. Refugees have launched their cry for help by urging the delivery of plastic sheeting for fear that the situation may deteriorate further in coming days.
