Amman (Agenzia Fides) - The eleven Iraqi Christian refugee families in Mosul who found hospitality in Naur, western urban area of the municipality in Amman, will also receive this year material aid reserved for them from the United Arab Emirates. Yesterday, Thursday, May 19, Father Rifat Bader, a Jordanian priest, promoter of the Catholic Centre for Studies and Media and the online site abouna.org, received Dr. Bilal Bdur, Ambassador of the UAE in Jordan, along with representatives of Caritas Jordan and a part of the Christian Iraqi refugees residing in that area families, at the Sacred Heart Church.
Already last year, the United Arab Emirates had offered significant financial aid in support of the same group of Iraqi families.
Father Rifat, in his welcoming speech, highlighted that Christian refugee families were able to move into homes for rent thanks to monthly financial support provided to them by the Red Crescent Society of the Emirates, and also expressed appreciation for the law against the defamation of religions and speeches that spread hate by exploiting religious topics, recently enacted in that Country.
The financial support of the United Arab Emirates to Christian families was presented as a small but significant example of collaboration and friendship between Christians and Muslims.
In the urban district of Naur, located on the west of Amman, there are over 50,000 inhabitants, most of them Palestinian Christians who fled their Country in 1948 and 1967. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 20/05/2016)
