San Pedro de Macoris (Agenzia Fides) - His Exc. Mgr. Francisco Ozoria Acosta, Bishop of the diocese of San Pedro de Macoris, condemned the incidents that took place in recent days in the Dominican Republic because of the recount of votes for the city of San Pedro de Macoris, where there is still no winner. Across the country the victory is of the Dominican Liberation Party of outgoing President Danilo Medina.
According to the note sent to Fides, Mgr. Ozoria Acosta believes that the fact that a party claims to have all the local representatives in the whole country indicates that his interest is only to "perpetuate". "Where there is only a group that dominates, this means 'dictatorship', then without popular support, the country's situation becomes very delicate", he said speaking to the local press.
Mgr. Ozoria Acosta also highlighted the lack of preparation of the voters in the consultation last Sunday and that there was a conditioning of the people. The local Church nevertheless praised the civic maturity of the citizens who voted in a peaceful and democratic manner, but according to Mgr. Ozoria Acosta, "this is another thing".
