Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will carry out a pastoral visit to Colombia, from May 21 to 28, for the episcopal ordination of the Apostolic Vicars of Puerto Gaitán and San Andrés y Providencia, a visit to the Apostolic Vicariate in Guapi and Puerto Leguízamo, and to preside the National Missionary Congress in Bucaramanga.
On Sunday, May 22 at 10 am Cardinal Filoni will preside the episcopal ordination of the Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Gaitán, Raúl Alfonso Carrillo Martínez, and of the Apostolic Vicar of San Andrés y Providencia, Jaime Uriel Sanabria Arias in the Cathedral of Bogota,.
On Monday, May 23 he will visit the Apostolic Vicariate in Guapi, on the Pacific coast, where he will meet priests, religious men and women, seminarians and apostolic groups, and local authorities, and will preside the Mass in the Cathedral. The following day, May 24th, the Prefect of the Congregation will be in the Apostolic Vicariate in Puerto Leguízamo, Colombia in the Amazon, where he will meet the catechists of the indigenous communities, mainly Murui and Quichua, and will visit an indigenous community. After Mass in the Cathedral and the meeting with civil authorities, military and religious, he will leave for Bogota in the afternoon. In the evening the Cardinal will visit the headquarters of the National Directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Colombia.
On Wednesday, May 25 he will visit the headquarters of CELAM, the meeting with the President of the Republic, Juan Manuel Santos, and the Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference. In the evening Mass in the San Luis Bertrán Intermisional Seminary, followed by a meeting with the Superiors and Seminarians.
On Thursday morning, May 26, Cardinal Filoni will go to Bucaramanga where he will preside the opening Mass of the XII National Missionary Congress in the afternoon. The following day, Friday, May 27, he will hold the first report of the Congress. In the afternoon meetings are planned with all the Apostolic Vicars and therefore with all the Metropolitan Archbishops. At 7.30pm the Cardinal Prefect will preside the Eucharist for the priests, the men and women religious, seminarians and lay movements of the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga in the Cathedral.
On Saturday, May 28th the Cardinal will preside over the Mass of missionary sending, then will return to Bogota and from there to Rome. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 19/05/2016)
