AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - The Archbishop of Juba: "there is completely no foundation for us to hate ourselves because of the tribes"

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "Let us think of togetherness, let us talk about unity, I think what went wrong with us was because of lack of unity among us the 64, 65 tribes did not succeed to come together and understand themselves", said His Exc. Mgr. Paulino Lokudu Loro, Archbishop of Juba, capital of South Sudan, in his homily on Sunday, May 15.
South Sudan has just emerged from a bloody civil war unleashed by Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M), but in the country there are also tensions and local conflicts arising from its tribal structure.
According to Mgr. Loro instead of being a divisive factor, the tribal factor should be recognized as an asset to the country, on condition of being able to find forms of understanding and unity among the various tribes.
"Each one from all the 64 tribes in South Sudan come from God" said the Archbishop urging everyone to find in this common origin the factor of unity. "It is there that we find the source of our unity".
"Nobody created the tribes. The tribes come from God. The people who are there come from God. Therefore there is completely no foundation for us to hate ourselves because of the tribes", the Archbishop concluded. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 18/05/2016)
