Accra (Agenzia Fides) - "Corruption is an endemic cancer that has reached the summit of the Country", warned His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Osei- Bonsu, Archbishop of Konongo-Mampong and President of the Episcopal Conference of Ghana, speaking to students who graduated from Our Lady of Grace (OLAG) school in Mamponteng, in the Ashanti Region.
"Young people need to stay away from corruption" urged the President of the Episcopal Conference of Ghana, who again denounced the embezzlement of public funds and corrupt practices in the Country (see Fides 02/01/2015).
The latest Afro Barometer Report has revealed that 82 percent of Ghanaians believe that the Country is heading in the wrong direction, whereas 58 percent think the country is already in a very bad state.
The church believes that Ghana's hopes are in the young, as stated by Mgr. Osei-Bonsu urging young students to be an example of life for others. The school in Mamponteng is just one example of the educational effort of the Catholic Church in Ghana. The Archdiocese of Kumasi launched the first-ever Catholic Talented Youth programme in Ghana.
"The youth should be ready to join the programme in order to nurture their God-given talent to enable them pursue it in helping the socio-economic growth of the country and their individual families", said Mgr. Gabriel Yaw Justice Anokye, Archbishop of Kumasi.
The programme under the theme: “Raising Godly Talent” will offer different activities, including recitals, instrumentals, choreography, preaching and singing. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 18/05/2016)
