Merida (Agenzia Fides) - Being a woman and a member of the Mayan ethnic group represent major difficulties when it comes to achieving human rights. As part of the forum Mayan Women and their Human Rights, the President of the Commission for Human Rights in Yucatan said that the protection of human rights is one of the main challenges for the construction of a fully democratic and egalitarian society. On this occasion, he urged the mayors of 106 municipalities to actively improve the living conditions of many women who see their legitimate aspirations limited, victims of phenomena such as discrimination, violence or inequality.
