Corrientes (Agenzia Fides) - "Given the progressive degradation and the threat to our planet and to human beings as an integral part of the planetary ecosystem, we assume the complexity of the situation that affects everyone. Challenged and encouraged by the encyclical Laudato Sì, we reaffirm that everything is connected and that there are not two separate, environmental and social crises, but only a complex socio-environmental crisis": says the final document of the 31st Meeting of the "Border Dioceses", held from 9 to 11 May in Paso de la Patria (see Fides 09/05/2016).
Bishops, priests, religious and lay people from Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay analyzed the common pastoral problems, focusing in particular on those related to the environment, under the guidance of the encyclical Laudato Sì.
An important point of consideration was the need to have better information for pastoral action on environmental problems in the area, such as excessive exploitation of the "Acuifero Guarani", nuclear plans, fracking projects, metalliferous mines, dams and other mega-projects.
The closing Mass was held in the Basilica in Itati, presided by His Exc. Mgr. Julio Bonino, Bishop of Tacuarembo (Uruguay), during which it was announced that the next meeting will be in the diocese of Bagé in May 2017 (Brazil). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 18/05/2016)
