ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - National Director of the PMS, Fr. Thomas Aquinas Kim Joon Chul

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 28, 2015 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Fr. Thomas Aquinas Kim Joon Chul, of the archdiocesan clergy of Seoul, Executive Secretary of the CBCK and Secretary General of the CCK as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Korea for five years (2016-2021). The appointment became effective from 26 March 2016.

The new National Director was born on February 16, 1955 in Jinhae and was ordained a priest on February 21, 1986 for the archdiocese of Seoul. In 1994 he earned his PhD in Missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. When he went back home, he was pastor for a year, and since 1995, Professor of Missiology at the Catholic University of Korea. Among his other roles: Director of the department for missions of the Archdiocese of Seoul, Director of the Catholic Catechetical Institute, Pastor in several communities. Since March 2015 he has been Executive Secretary of the CBCK (Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea) and Secretary General of the CCK (Catholic Conference of Korea). (SL) (Agenzia Fides 13/05/2016)
