Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - Child labor is a phenomenon that affects 13% of Dominican children between 5 to 17 years of age. In order to address this phenomenon, the Niños Limpiabotas La Merced Foundation was established with the mission to eradicate child labor in Santo Domingo West area, accompanying them and enabling them to acquire a complete training through values which contribute to the development of a free and just society. According to UNICEF estimates, there are 158 million child laborers in the age group between 5 and 14 years of age worldwide. Millions are those who work in hazardous conditions.
