Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - Today, Tuesday, April 19, militants of associations and Lebanese organizations find themselves in the municipal office of Sin el Fil, eastern suburb of the Lebanese capital, to remember the story of the two Metropolitan Bishops of Aleppo - Syro Orthodox Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim and Greek Orthodox Boulos Yazigi - of whom we have had no certain news since their kidnapping, which occurred on April 22, 2013.
The meeting, organized by acronyms related to the Syro Orthodox Church and the Greek Orthodox Church, three years after the abduction, has the aim to avoid that the two Bishops are forgotten, and to reactivate channels and initiatives to break the total lack of information around their fate. The meeting, entitled "We do not forget", also includes the presence of Abib Afram (President of the Syriac League of Lebanon, which represents 60 thousand Syriac Christians), and the interventions of some speakers, such as former Sunni Minister Faisal Karami, the member of Hezbollah Ali Fayyad Hezbollah and Christian Orthodox MP Marwan Abu Fadel.
The two metropolitan Bishops of Aleppo - Greek Orthodox Boulos al-Yazigi and Syriac Orthodox Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim - had been kidnapped in the area between the Syrian city and the border with Turkey. Since then, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Six months after the seizure (see Fides 30/10/2013), General Abbas Ibrahim, head of Lebanese General Security, revealed that the place where the two Bishops kidnapped were detained had been identified, and "indirect contact" with the kidnappers to obtain their release had begun, but no confirmation followed.
