AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of San Andrés y Providencia, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 16 April 2016 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Apostolic Vicariate of San Andrés y Providencia (Colombia), presented by His Exc. Msg. Eulises González Sánchez, in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Jaime Uriel Sanabria Arias, of the clergy of Tunja, Parish priest and the diocesan Vicar for Pastoral care as Apostolic Vicar of San Andrés y Providencia (Colombia). He was assigned the titular see of Burca.
Rev. Jaime Uriel Sanabria Arias was born on April 17, 1970 in the Municipality of Ciénaga-Boyacá, Archdiocese of Tunja. After attending elementary school in his native land, he entered the major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Tunja, where he continued his studies in Philosophy and Theology. He participated in pastoral specialization courses in Rome and Mexico. He prepared several monographs on the Document of Aparecida.
He was ordained a priest on November 19, 1994 and incardinated in the Archdiocese of Tunja.
Since his ordination he has served the following roles: Assistant priest in Ciénaga-Boycá (1994-1999); Pastor in San Antonio de Ventaquemada (1999-2007); Director of the Department of Youth of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (2000-2004); Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Action of the Archdiocese of Tunja (2008). Since 2014 Parish priest in the parish of Señor de los Milagros de San Pedro. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 18/04/2016)
