Erbil (Agenzia Fides) – On Wednesday, April 13 several hundred Christian Syrians, Chaldeans and Assyrians, from the region of Nahla, in the northern Iraqi province of Dohuk, organized a protest demonstration in front of the Parliament of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan to protest against the illegal expropriation of their estate property assets suffered in recent years at the hands of influential Kurdish notables, often denounced - so far without success - to a competent court. The demonstrators came from Dohuk province in the Nineveh Plain, and as documented by the photos published on ankawa.com website – they exhibited signs and banners, including one in English with the words "The United States and Western countries are responsible for what is happening and is perpetrated against our people in Iraq". According to what is reported by the protesters, the most severe cases of expropriation affect illegally misappropriated lands regarding 117 Christian families from fixers and local Kurdish bosses, who turned them into residential areas to their advantage. A delegation of protesters – report local sources consulted by Agenzia Fides - was received by the Vice-President of Parliament Jaafar Ermiki, who was given a detailed dossier of illegal expropriations suffered by Christians in the villages of Nahla area, to be submitted to the attention of the 'Parliamentary Assembly.
