AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Nearly half of minors and adolescent workers receive no remuneration

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - According to a recent report by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), at a national level, the last quarter of 2015, 47.1% of the population in the age group between 5 to 17 years of age worked without receiving any remuneration in exchange. Most of those that were paid received only a quarter of a minimum wage. 36.1% of Colombian children and adolescents mainly work in the field of agriculture, livestock raising, hunting, forestry and fishing, 32.1% are engaged in trade, hotels and restaurants. The report also highlighted a wide gap among the major cities, where the registered child labor rate was 6.7%, and 15.6% in villages and remote areas. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 14/04/2016)
