AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Gaitán, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 8 April 2016 the Holy Father, accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Gaitán (Colombia), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Luis Horacio Gómez Gonzáles, in accordance with can. 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Raúl Alfonso Carrillo Martínez, of the clergy of Zipaquirá, Pastor and Moderator of the Curia as Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Gaitán (Colombia). He was assigned the titular see of Afufenia.
Rev. Raúl Alfonso Carrillo Martínez was born on September 22, 1964 in Ubaté, Diocese of Zipaquirá. He studied philosophy and theology at San José de Zipaquirá Major Seminary, between the years 1984 and 1990. He was ordained a priest on 14 May 1990, incardinated in the Diocese of Zipaquirá.
He then carried out the following pastoral and administrative roles: 1990-1991: Assistant priest at Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Zipaquirá); Missionary and assistant priest at Santa Cruz de Mompox (Diocese of Magangué); 1991-1994: Missionary and parish priest at Santa Cruz (Diocese of Magangué); 1994-2000: Pastor of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes (Zipaquirá); Diocesan delegate for Missionary Pastoral; 2000-2002: Licence in Pastoral Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome; 2002-2007: Formator and bursar at San José de Zipaquirá Major Seminary, Member of the Diocesan Council for Economic Affairs; since 2008: Parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Zipaquirá), Moderator of the Curia, Member of the Diocesan Council for Economic Affairs and Forane Vicar of Santisima Trinidad.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Gaitán was erected in 1999, it has an area of 50,500 square kilometers and a population of 129,500 inhabitants, of whom 82,700 are Catholic. There are 10 parishes, 27 priests (22 diocesan, 5 religious), 3 sisters and 6 major seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 11/04/2016)
