AFRICA/SUDAN - New air raids on the Nuba Mountains

Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - Local Church sources confirmed to Agenzia Fides what the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) denounced, according to which the Sudanese air force has carried out air raids on some areas of the Nuba Mountains (South Kordofan).
A MiG fighter bomber, on the afternoon of Sunday, April 3, dropped four bombs on the village of Upper Komo: a bomb partially destroyed Hakima Institute for medical education, while the other three killed a 16-year-old girl and wounded six people. On April 5, an Antonov bomber bombed Kujur Shabia area with 13 bombs. In the last two weeks, there have been violent clashes in several areas in the states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile.
Through these operations on several fronts, the government wants to force the leadership of SPLM-N to sign the declaration of principles proposed by the mediation of the African Union in February.
The deputy commander of the 14th Infantry Division in South Kordofan has threatened further attacks against SPLM-N positions". Kordofan is one of Sudan's most affected regions by famine, according to the UN, and is putting at risk the lives of more than 400,000 Sudanese. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 06/04/2016)
