Milan (Agenzia Fides) - Ethiopia is one of the Countries most affected by blindness. In this Country, in fact, women with visual disabilities are exposed to enormous risks: accidents at home, family neglect, violence. They cannot take care of their children and therefore become a burden, they are abandoned by the family and marginalized by the community. Yet in 80% of cases, the causes that lead to blindness could be prevented with proper prevention and targeted interventions.
This is the message that CBM Italy Onlus wanted to bring to the Milan Marathon which has just ended. "It was an event that united sport and solidarity with the aim of restoring the sight to 100 mothers in Ethiopia", said a statement sent to Agenzia Fides. The competitive race for athletes was joined by the charity relay connected to Europ Assistance Relay Marathon Charity Program, in favor of 65 non-profit organizations and open to all. A record edition which involved more than 20,000 people who raced through the streets of the city. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 05/04/2016)
