Aden (Agenzia Fides) – There is still no news of Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, the Salesian priest kidnapped after the massacre perpetrated by a terrorist commando in the nursing home of Aden almost a month ago (see Fides 04/03/2016), where four Missionaries of Charity were killed along with 12 other people. "Days go by, and we do not know where he is. We cannot confirm or deny anything. We hope and pray for him", refers to Agenzia Fides Bishop Paul Hinder OFM Cap, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia.
In recent days rumors have been circulating regarding the killing by crucifixion of the Salesian priest of Indian nationality on Good Friday. On Monday, March 28, Mgr. Hinder spoke of "strong indications" that indicate that the priest is still alive and in the hands of his kidnappers. On Tuesday, March 29, the Salesian Congregation, in an official statement, implicitly suggested the sources to which one should refer to know the developments of Father Tom, avoiding to give credit to false news. "We are waiting to receive news, which we hope will be positive, from those who follow the story more closely: the Indian Government, the Apostolic Vicariate for southern Arabia and the Salesian Provincial of Bangalore", reads the statement released by Fr. Filiberto Gonzalez Plasencia, general Councillor for Communication of the Salesian Society of St. John Bosco. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 01/04/2016)
