Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "All citizens have equal rights before the law and have the right to be brought before a court to be punished according to the law and the articles of the Constitution", said His Exc. Mgr. Edward Hiiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio, in South Sudan, during a press conference during which he called for the release of the former governor of Western Equatoria, Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro, held without trial since 22 December after being arrested by the security service (NSS-National security services).
Mgr. Kussala pointed out that the former governor should be given the opportunity to defend himself in a court of law.
The Bishop recalled that President Salva Kiir has offered an amnesty to all those who have asked for forgiveness and reconciliation within the framework of the peace agreements signed with his rival Riek Machar to end the civil war that began in December 2013. The charges against Bakosoro are not known and the family says that after months of detention his health has worsened. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 01/04/2016)
