Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A call to prayer for peace, with a special intention for Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, the Salesian kidnapped in Yemen (see Fides 04/03/2016, 17/03/2016): is what Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime asks all the Salesian family of the Rector Major, on the occasion of Holy Thursday, according to news released by Ans.
Looking at the existing pain in many parts of the world, Fr. Artime invites all "to live a very intense moment of prayer on Holy Thursday, when we will accompany Jesus in the pain and loneliness of Gethsemane".
In a video posted on social networks, the Rector Major expresses closeness and solidarity to Fr. Uzhunnalil’s family.
Fr. Mathew Valarkot, spokesman for the Salesians' Bangalore province, to which the kidnapped priest belongs, issued the following statement: "We have heard some unverifiable and non-confirmed news circulating these days, about the status and the current condition of Father Tom Uzhunnalil, abducted on March 4 in Aden, Yemen, by unidentified gunmen. We Salesians are not responsible for their contents or their authenticity. In this context, we reiterate that so far no information about the place or the current condition of Father Tom has come from credible and reliable sources. Therefore we make a sincere appeal to all those concerned to stop spreading such unsolicited, misleading messages. Meanwhile we continue to pray for Fr. Tom, may the Lord protect him from all pain and deliver him from the clutches of evil forces as soon as possible". (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/03/2016)
