Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - Complications related to zika virus, which continues to spread, are increasing and it is urgent to step up efforts. To cope with the problem a second medical operation to eliminate breeding sites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, vector of dengue, chikungunya and zika, has started. In the message launched on the radio and national television, the President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, called on all people to join in the fight against the insect. Villages, settlements, beaches and resorts, will be mainly involved in health campaign. Health authorities are working to assist 185 pregnant women who have been infected and 57 other persons who have been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disease that has already caused the first death in the Country. Given the serious threat that these diseases constitute, authorities have urged to report at public and private treatment centers all cases of microcephaly and patients with Guillain-Barré. The Ministry of Health, since the beginning of 2016, has recorded globally about 25 thousand cases of people infected by zika, chikungunya and dengue. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 15/03/2016)
