Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - On 8 March the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB) and the Conference of Religious of Brazil (CRB) celebrated, at the headquarters of the CNBB in Brasilia, Sister Vanderléia Corrêa de Mello, another missionary sent to Haiti. The nun is 33, a native of Mariópolis (Brazil) and belongs to the Institute of the Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King.
The nun, informs the note of the POM in Brazil sent to Fides, will mainly dedicate herself to the work of education.
The Mass of missionary sending was presided by the President of the Commission for Missionary Action of the CNBB, His Exc. Mgr. Esmeraldo Barreto de Farias, who spoke of the joy that the Church in Brazil feels for having become a Church-sister at the service of Haiti.
Mgr. Barreto recalled the suffering of Haiti, not only because of the earthquake, but also for the social situation and the colonial heritage that marks the history of the country. The missionary cooperation of the Church helps relieve the pain of the population, wherever they are.
After the earthquake in 2010, Brazil has worked hard for Haiti (see Fides 04/03/2010; 01/12/2010; 21/02/2011; 14/04/2011; 13/05/2011), where the needs are still so many. The commitment of the Brazilian religious continues (see Fides 02/12/2014), in the social field (see Fides 17/06/2014). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 11/03/2016)
