Brazzaville (Agenzia Fides) - "We launch an appeal to peace, harmony and unity on the occasion of the presidential elections in our respective Countries", write the Bishops of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of the Central Africa Region ( ACERAC which includes Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea) in the message issued at the end of the permanent Council meeting held recently in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo.
The Bishops welcome the peaceful conduct of elections in the Central African Republic and thank Pope Francis, who "brought his solidarity and contribution, last November, to the progressive return, sometimes difficult, of peace in this Country".
But the approach of the presidential elections in other ACERAC countries is marked by "threats that arrive everywhere in our region; the conquest of land insecurity with the global economic and financial crisis and because of gratuitous and inexplicable violence".
"It is important to organize these elections well, in respect of the democratic game and the rules that guarantee the fairness and equality of opportunity for all participants who aspire to serve their people", said the message sent to Fides.
This is why, recalling the importance and the need to look at public interest and to promote the common good, we launch an appeal to peace, unity and harmony, regarding all the people of God and all men and women of good will in Central Africa, and to ensure that the elections are carried out in a fair and peaceful manner", the message concludes.
