Tunis (Agenzia Fides) - “The prevailing feeling among Tunisians is that the terrorists must be defeated” Fides was told by Fr. Jawad Alamat, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Tunisia, where, in the city of Ben Guerdane, on the border with Libya, in a battle between the security forces and a group of armed men, perhaps members of ISIS, at least 55 were killed among them 36 terrorists.
“What matters is to underline the cohesion and the solidarity between the people of Ben Guerdane and the security forces. The terrorists do not have the support of the people, on the contrary they are driven away as enemies of the nation” said Fr. Jawad. “The episode reveals Tunisia’s sense of fragility on the one hand but on the other exalts the sentiment of national unity which prevails over domestic disputes ” Fr. Jawad concludes. (L.M.)
