Sydney (Agenzia Fides) – On the occasion of International Women’s Day , Catholic Mission, the Pontifical Mission Societies in Australia, celebrates women missionaries who continue to have a profound impact on the lives of millions of people, in Australia and elsewhere in the world. In a statement sent to Fides national PMS director, Fr Brian Lucas, calls these women “the Church’s uncelebrated heroines”, underlining their incredible work in recent years. “In these past 5 years- Fr. Lucas said - Catholic Mission has shed light on the dedication of women missionaries all over the world. Even in the most difficult circumstances their courage is beyond dispute and their faith is unfaltering.” This year to mark 8 March, Catholic Mission called its supporters to remember the great contribution made by women in the Church and in everyday life. “Women –Fr. Lucas continued – are an integral part of the Church’s activity all over the world, including at Catholic Mission, indeed our organisation was started by a lay missionary woman, Pauline Jaricot. He concluded by calling for prayers to accompany Religious Sisters and lay missionaries as they work all over the world to spread the faith, and also justice and wellbeing in every community”.
