Migrant Pastoral Meeting

Panama City (Agenzia Fides) – Bishops and pastoral workers from the United States, central America and Mexico denounce an increase in deportation migrants in recent years.

In a statement at the end of the 8th regional Meeting for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees held in Panama from 29 February to 3 March 2016, the church representatives called for greater respect for the dignity of migrants and refugees and the cessation of attitudes and speeches which foster " discrimination, racism, extreme nationalism and xenophobia".

Another important aspect voiced at the end of the meeting was the urgent need to draft regional protocols regarding care, assistance and protection for child and adolescent migrants.
