AFRICA/ANGOLA - Catholic Bishops' Conference of Angola, Sao Tomé and Principe opens Plenary

Luanda (Agenzia Fides) – On-going formation and the extension of Radio Ecclesia network to cover the whole of Angola were among the issues being discussed by the Plenary Assembly of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Angola, Sao Tomé and Principe (CEAST), which began yesterday, 2 March, in Ndalatando, main city of the province of Cuanza Norte, some 200 Km north of the capital, Luanda.
According to information received by Fides, other important matters for discussion included preparations for the Inter Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA, comprising the bishops of Angola, Sao Tomé and Principe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Zimbabwe), and also preparations for the First National Eucharistic Congress (CENA) to take place in August in Huambo (central Angola).
In his opening address Mons. Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias. Archbishop of Luanda and President of CEAST, underlined that the National Eucharistic Congress will be a highlight in celebrations to mark 525 years since Angola’s first evangelisation and 150 years of second evangelisation.
