Wednesday, 2 March 2016

Mosul (Agenzia Fides) – While US military sources confirm that the next objective in the fight against Islamic State jihadists (Daesh) will be to take back Mosul, a petition has been forwarded by Iraqi Chaldean Raed Yitzhak to Prime Minister Haider al Abadi asking that persons who fled Mosul and the Plain of Ninive may have partial access to economic resources deposited with banks in their city, before it fell into the hands of the Jihadist militia. According to local sources consulted by Fides – the petition also urges the competent authorities to permit procedures enabling white collar employees who in the past two years have reached the age of retirement to receive the due pension. Moreover the petition stresses the need to guarantee Christian government employees who fled Mosul and the Plain of Ninive to be re-employed in public bodies, institutions and enterprises which depend on the autonomous government of Iraqi Kurdistan, to avoid all creeping discrimination on sectarian grounds.
