Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - Protection and schooling for children should be a priority all over the world. Nevertheless more than 17,000 boys and girls die every day of preventable causes; 27 million are refugees or displaced miles from their homelands; another 14 million suffer because of war in Syria or in Iraq; 9 million live like slaves; more than 100 million live on the streets and 168 million are forced to work. Children and young people are the future of the world and their wellbeing and safety should be given first place among the important things to do. But this is not so: millions of children are abandoned and have to fend for themselves. To attempt to change this situation the Salesian Missions in Madrid has launched a campaign “ellos me importan” “I care about them” to help the many children in the world denied the right to play, to study and to receive medical care.
