Pumpenai (Agenzia Fides) - Fr. Marco Mikalonis a young priest from Argentina, member of the Institute of the Incarnate Word, presently on mission in Lithuania, sent this message to Fides: “Here is a brief report on our work in Pumpenai where we continue to thank God for everything and thanks to whom our mission goes ahead! Yesterday I went to pay a call on some of the sick people in our parish. People are gradually getting used to visits from the priest. Up to now most people thought the priest only comes when someone is dying. But now it is encouraging to see they are getting used to the idea and it is amazing to see how frequent communion at home brings peace and joy not only to those who are bedridden but to the whole family and the community. Half the people in the area live in the town that other half lives in the country. I try to visit every family once a month. Home visiting is difficult and tiring, sometimes a sort of “rally”, with snow or ice to make it more exciting, but it bears much fruit. I always ask them to pray for the parish and the priests. Like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who dreamed of putting a ring of charity around the world, with the help of my sick parishioners I am starting to put “ring of charity” around the parish”.
