AFRICA/DR CONGO - The new Ugandan terrorist attacks of the ADF spread fear among the population in Eringeti

Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - The fear of new attacks has seized the inhabitants of Eringeti and its surroundings, after those committed by the terrorists of the ADF on 12 and 14 February. Eringeti is located in the territory of Beni, in North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where various armed groups that spread terror among the population have been operating for years. Recently, the Congolese Religious in Rome have launched a petition so that the drama of this region is not forgotten (see Fides 13/02/2016).
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, on February 12 the ADF raided the village of Lesse, which killed 6 people, 14 were kidnapped and 29 homes were burned. Of the 14 kidnapped, 9 are girls and 5 are boys. Only one of them managed to escape. On Sunday, February 14 the village of Tingwe was attacked, but so far no deaths or material damage have been reported.
In the face of these attacks, the inhabitants of the area fear more violence on behalf of this group of Ugandan origin. Recently, the Congolese armed forces and MONUSCO (UN Mission in the DRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding for joint action against the ADF. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 15/02/2016)
