Lima (Agenzia Fides) - "A reflection before the next general election", is the title of the document that Peruvian Bishops handed over to the national community on Wednesday evening, February 10th. "We have to choose representatives to guide us towards the celebration of the bicentennial of the nation. But this satisfaction is hampered by a certain sadness and bewilderment, seeing how the electoral process is carried out. Our political system is influenced by high levels of corruption.
Faced with the current situation, the Bishops pose the questions: "How to fight corruption? How to promote ethical behavior? How to deal with citizen insecurity? How to succeed in obtaining a level of justice and respect?".
"We propose ethical criteria in order to choose the right candidate: inquire about the candidates, ask them a government program, eliminate corrupt candidates, verify the commitment. Finally we invite Christians to participate in the political life with an attitude of service to the common good, typical of the evangelical values", concludes the text.
The general elections in Peru will be held on April 10, 2016, to elect the president, vice president, members of Congress of the Republic and the Andean Parliament for the 2016-2021 period. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 12/02/2016)
