ASIA/TURKEY - The Hrant Dink Foundation makes an inventory of the buildings built by religious minorities

Ankara (Agenzia Fides) - The Hrant Dink Foundation - founded to cherish the memory and ideals of the Turkish journalist and writer of Armenian origin who was assassinated in January 2007 - has compiled an inventory of the buildings built in Anatolia by members and groups belonging to the Greek, Armenian, Syriac and Hebrew community: synagogues, monasteries, schools, hospitals and cemeteries, represent a major part of the cultural heritage of Anatolia, which now is largely in the hands of owners - public or private - that have no connection with the communities that funded and built the buildings. The inventory - reports Agos, the Turkish-Armenian bilingual newspaper - was made possible thanks to a meticulous research which lasted two and a half years, and provides useful information on about 10 thousand buildings originally owned by members or institutions belonging to minority groups.
On 28 April (see Fides 28/04/2015), the initiative put in place by Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church had had extensive media response, who on that day had submitted an application to the Constitutional Court in Turkey containing the request for the return of the residences and properties belonged to the Catholicosate in the city of Sis, the ancient capital of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, corresponding to the current Turkish town of Kozan.
