San José (Agenzia Fides) - According to an annual assessment of the Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (Enaho) 2015, carried out every year by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), of the 584,645 children, between 5 and 12 years of age, present in Costa Rica, about 20,000 do not attend primary school. Most of these, 63.5%, are under six years of age, and the parents do not send them to school because they do not have the minimum age required for attendance. On the other hand, of the 402 194 adolescents between 13 to 17, 49,935, 12.4%, do not attend secondary school. Currently, the 'Puente al desarrollo' program, of the local Ministry of Education, helps the poorest families by putting them in a position to allow their children to study.
