AMERICA/PERU - Zika virus: Cardinal Cipriani compares man to a modern Herod

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - Peruvian Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima, believes that the UN acts as a modern Herod, encouraging governments of countries affected by Zika virus to permit abortion, as this may manifest malformations in fetuses and neurological problems in infants.
"There is a genius, a Herod [he who ordered the killing of all the children after learning that the Messiah had been born] who believes it is necessary to order death: all those who have a child in this period must abort, because there is this danger, even if it is not fully proven. But if in doubt, the best thing is for all to die", said Cardinal Cipriani on Sunday, February 7, during his radio program.
In Peru there has been only one case of infection, while in other countries of the region the concern is much greater. Brazil and Colombia are the most affected countries, with thousands of cases. In Brazil, many children whose mothers had contracted Zika during early pregnancy were born with microcephaly. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 09/02/2016)
