AMERICA/MEXICO - The Bishop of Cuernavaca in solidarity with the university protest

Morelos (Agenzia Fides) - On February 7, the Bishop of the Diocese of Cuernavaca, His Exc. Mgr. Ramon Castro Castro, visited the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), in the central square of the state capital, expressing solidarity with the students of this university.
The University highlights 13 requests, focused on asking the government to comply with the promises made, that is to say authorize the construction of the University Hospital and allocate funds (10 million Mexican pesos) currently in the hands of the government, in order to administer the works and pay the staff.
"The university’s struggle is also a necessity and represents the feelings of many people, I think it is a cause that we all have to support", said Mgr. Ramon Castro, who invited all of the residents in Morelos to join this movement and support UAEM and its requests.
On his behalf, the rector of UAEM, Alejandro Vera Jimenez thanked the Bishop for the meeting, which was held in a friendly and open atmosphere, during which he expressed the hope that the conflict is resolved peacefully and responsibly. According to UAEM data, the university is one of the main iniversities in Mexico, with 15 faculties, 3 institutes and 6 research centers, and more than 18,000 students.
