AMERICA/BRAZIL - Forty years after Vatican II: context, institutions and challenges for the Church in Brazil today. Seminar in February 2006 to re-visit and implement that exceptional ecumenical event

Brasilia (Fides Service) - Vatican II: context, institutions and challenges for the Church in Brazil today is the theme of a Seminar organised by the Catholic Bishops of Brazil through the National Pastoral Institute. The seminar will be held 8-10 February 2006 in Vila Kostka d’Itaici, Indaiatuba (São Paolo). The purpose is to “celebrate 40 years of Vatican II teaching, revisiting the event, its fundamental institutions and its main topics in order to set it in the present day context to shed light on new challenges and tasks facing the Church in Brazil today”.
The programme of the Seminar will include 6 conferences, group reflection and plenary assembly. The conference themes are the following: “Vatican II: event, context and contribution of the Church in Brazil”; “Ecclesiology of Vatican II: fundamental spirit and axis”; “Vatican II and the Church in dialogue with other Christians, other religions, other cultures and with science”; “The presence of the Church in the world in a spirit of service, particularly for the poor ”; “Vatican II: tasks still to be completed by the Church in Brazil today” ; “5th CELAM Conference and Vatican II”.
