Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - The shortage of medicines and equipment in medical institutions in the Country and the deterioration of public hospitals continues to endanger the health and lives of Venezuelans. The National Assembly in a recent debate on the crisis in the health sector, reported testimonies of relatives of people who died due to lack of medicines. According to the Pharmaceutical Federation in Venezuela, about 80% of the medicines are lacking. While the government claims that Venezuela has the highest per capita consumption of drugs in the region and that drugs come from neighboring countries, the opposition says that resources for the import of medicines and medical equipment were not delivered on time.
