Villa Brochero (Agenzia Fides) - The closing Mass of the annual "Brocheriana Week", celebrated yesterday, Tuesday, 26 January, was an opportunity to meet newly-elected President Mauricio Macri with the main representatives of the Church in Argentina, led by Cardinal Mario Poli, Archbishop Buenos Aires. Villa Cura Brochero, Córdoba, about 820 km from the capital, where Fr. José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero (1840-1914) was born and worked, known as "cura" Brochero, much loved by Argentines, welcomed about 4,000 faithful, enthusiastic for the news of the upcoming canonization of the priest who dedicated his life to the gauchos (see Fides 25/01/2016).
"Semana Brocheriana" was held from January 16 to 26 and the main theme was: "Con Brochero, seamos Misericordiosos como Dios Padre nuestro". President Macri, greeted with a respectful applause, came to the closing celebration with some ministers of his government. "Brochero is the example of Argentina we want. He bet on the future, he believed in the people of Cordoba, worked close with the people, he was a positive man, he always believed in what he did and that is what we need, to bet on the future", said the president after the Mass, according to the note sent to Fides.
In the closing Mass of the Week, Cardinal Poli focused on the pastoral work carried out by the priest, with particular emphasis on the need to imitate his "closeness" to the people, something that always characterized cura Brochero. He also emphasized his integrity. He invited his friends to help the poor". He then recalled one of the priest’s dreams: to see the railway in Cordoba, and "maybe one day this dream will come true" concluded the Cardinal.
The local press commented positively on the President’s gesture of closeness, hoping for the beginning of a new phase in relations between the Church and the Government. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 27/01/2016)
