ASIA/ISRAEL - The Jewish of the Menhir Tag group pay homage to the desecrated cemetery in Beit Jamal

Jerusalem (Agenzia Fides) - A group of more than sixty Jews wanted to express their conviction and shock at the desecration of the Salesian cemetery in Beit Jamal and paid homage to the cemetery where last December serious acts of sectarian vandalism was carried out. The visit of the Jewish group – report official sources of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem - took place on Friday, January 22. Visitors expressed their solidarity to the Salesians, owners of the cemetery, and then wanted to plant an olive tree at the entrance of the religious house.
The architects of this initiative of solidarity belong to the Tag Mehir organization, founded in 2011 with the intention of countering all forms and expressions of racism in Israel. Already in the name, the organization intends to underline its total contrast with the acts of violence and intimidation committed by groups of ultranationalist settlers starting from 2012, which affected in various ways mosques or Christian places (Tabgha, Beit Jamal, Latrun The Dormition, etc.), "signing" their intimidation with the initials "Price to tag" (the price to pay).
The cemetery adjacent to the Salesian monastery in Beit Jamal, in the Israeli town of Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, had been desecrated in mid-December. The incident of sacrilegious vandalism had heavily hit the crosses made of wood and concrete placed on many graves, but had been made known by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem only in January.
