Huesca (Agenzia Fides) - "Can a child be a missionary?" This is the question at the heart of the National Day of Holy Childhood in Spain which will be celebrated tomorrow, Sunday, January 24.

"Can a child be a missionary? The answer is clearly yes", says His Exc. Mgr. Julian Ruiz Martorell, Bishop of Huesca and Jaca (Spain), who explains the meaning of the day and calls to enhance the precious "missionary" quality of children, who are sensitive, have big hearts, are generous and grateful.

This is due to three reasons:

First of all, children have a particular sensitivity to the needs of other children. To see images or photographs of those their same age, who live in poor countries and do not have basic necessities: love, shelter, sanitation, water, food, clothing, school desks, books, notebooks, pencils and even football balls. Children ask why there is so much injustice.

Secondly, children have a big heart. A heart that sees where there is need and desire to act accordingly.

Thirdly children have a generous spirit which is manifested in their willingness to share. They have the capacity of renunciation. They have a tendency to overcome the prejudices of culture, race or religion.

Thanks to the generosity of the Spanish children, for example, in 2015, with the donations collected in 2014, it was possible to realize 385 projects of education, evangelization, for health and life, in 37 countries. The amount collected was € 2.733,972.39. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 23/01/2016)
