ASIA/CAMBODIA - Works of charity and pilgrimage in the Year of Mercy

Phnom Penh (Agenzia Fides) - Living the Year of Mercy in the name of charity work inspired by the Gospel of the Good Samaritan; and making at least one pilgrimage: is the exhortation that His Exc. Mgr. Olivier Schmitthaeusler, Vicar Apostolic of Phnom Penh, addressed to the faithful in a pastoral letter dedicated to the extraordinary Jubilee. The text, sent by the Vicar to Agenzia Fides, remarked: "This is the program of the Holy Year: mercy is our heart that expands, which converts and acts concretely to help our neighbor in the way Jesus acted. Let the Good Samaritan and Christ who washes his disciples’ feet accompany us in this year 2016".
With the spirit of carrying out the works of mercy, the Bishop invites the faithful of all parishes to choose a specific apostolate among the six priorities established together: education, health service, training for the unemployed, the disabled, care for creation, inclusion of the poor.
Each community is also invited to choose a day of the Holy Year to make a pilgrimage to one of three places: the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Phnom Penh; the Shrine of the Cambodian Martyrs; the church of Our Lady of Mekong in Arey Ksat. All Cambodian Catholics, he remarked, are called "to open three Holy Doors in their heart", putting into practice faith, mercy and hope. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 22/01/2016)
