Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - The attack on the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda has been strongly condemned. The attack, claimed by the Taliban organization "Tehrik-i- Pakistan" caused the death of 21 people and 60 others were wounded: is what expresses the "Justice and Peace" National Commission, within the Bishops' Conference of Pakistan. A note sent to Fides, signed by Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani, president of the Commission, and Cecil Chaudhry, Executive Director, noted: "Pakistan is ranked second in the world among countries with the highest school dropout, while only 5% of students reach higher education in Pakistan. It is essential that the government takes the necessary measures to ensure the safety of all educational institutions in order to protect those who work in order to form a better Pakistan".
The Commission expresses the closeness of the Catholic Church to the people of Charsadda in times of pain and has asked to bring the perpetrators to justice. "This tragic event has caused shock and grief across the country. We pray for the innocent victims of this horrible attack and for their families.
