AMERICA/MEXICO - Even a Tzotzil priest will concelebrate with the Pope during his visit in Mexico

Chiapas (Agenzia Fides) – Even a priest of ethnic Tzotzil will concelebrate the Mass that will be presided by the Holy Father on February 15 in Altos de Chiapas, during his pastoral visit to Mexico. Tzotzil is a language that is spoken by the Maya and especially in the highlands of Chiapas, by the people of ethnic Tzotzil. According to the latest census (2005), the number of people who speak it is about 350,000.
His Exc. Mgr. Felipe Arizmendi informed that Father Sebastián López, Tzotzil priest born in El Bosque, who currently carries out his pastoral ministry in Chalchihuitán, will attend the Pope’s celebration together with the catechists who work in the community of La Selva and Altos de Chiapas. The Mass will be celebrated in the afternoon of February 15 at the Sports Center of the City.
According to the note sent to Fides, after celebrating Mass, the Pope will go to the Cathedral, where he will meet 500 elderly and 500 sick people, then after lunch, he will go to Tuxtla Gutierrez to have a meeting with the families at the football stadium.
